Sir Anthony van Dyke (1599-1641)

For my money one of the greatest portrait artists of all time, if not the greatest of them all. He deserved his job as the court painter to King Charles 1st. His triple portrait of him was for Bernini in Rome to help in sculpting a bust.

I was well impressed by these simple geometric forms at Serpentine Green in Peterborough, Christmas decs with a lot of style & simplicity.

Had a real good chin-wag with this 86 year-old Liverpudlian as I drew his portrait. He`d recently lost his wife and felt lost and didn`t know how to fill the days. As happens so often as I go around shopping centres, it can be humbling to hear peoples stories.
